Summary

Three deneholes situated on the perimeter of Grove Wood near Darland Banks, Speke's Bottom, Gillingham. These depressions were marked as deneholes on the 1989 OS map and are all approximately 4m in diameter. One of the depressions was c.11.5 m. deep and enclosed by a fence. The chambers are all trefoil in plan.

Full Description

There are three deneholes in the wood which lies at the bottom of the Darland Banks, at Speke's Bottom, Gillingham. (1) `A', [TQ 78816520], is 3.8 m. in diameter, enclosed by a fence and is being filled with rubbish. `B', [TQ 79036511] , is 4.0 m. in diameter, 11.5 m. deep and is enclosed by a fence. The chambers appear to be trefoil in plan. `C', [TQ 79086509] , is a hollow which appears to be a collapsed denehole. Surveyed at 1/2500. (2) Series of depressions on the perimeter of Grove Wood, at TQ 788 652, marked as deneholes on OS 1989, 1:25K. (3)
