Description from record TQ 94 NW 1:
[TQ 92734988] Chapel [GT] (Remains of) [TI] (1) To the E. of the cottages at Burleigh Farm are the ruins of a mediaeval flint building (a) considered by Igglesden (b) to be the remains of chantry chapel but not listed by Hussey (c). Hasted (d) notes the founding of a chantry in Charing Church by John de Burleigh but makes no mention of a chapel at Burleigh Manor House which he describes as lying near the high footway leading from the upper part of Charing Street to Lenham alias Royton Heath; obviously the present Burleigh Farm. The building, of which only the N. and E. walls and SW. angle survive, is oblong on plan, orientated E-W and measure externally 12.0 m. by 7.6 m. The walls, 0.8 m thick, are constructed of flint and chalk with stone plinth course and dressings; they reach a maximum height of 8.0m. There are no dateable architectura details and no evidence of internal sub- division. It is heavily overgrown with ivy and in a very poor condition. There seems to be no real evidence for calling this building a chapel. Its proximity to the late 17th/early 18th cent. Burleigh Farm suggests rather that it may be one of the demesne buildings of an earlier Burleigh Manor House. (2) G.P. AO/61/175/5 5272 CHARING TILE LODGE ROAD Chapel ruins at Burleigh Farm, to the east of Burleigh Farm Cottages (formerly listed as Ruins of Chapel at Burleigh Farm) TQ 94 NW 10/63 14.2.67 II 2. Ruins of a flint wall of a medieval chapel with lancet window.
The potential impact of proposed development on these designated ruins was assessed by Andrew Josephs Associates in a desk-based assessment in 2013. It was concluded there would be no impact.
