Description from record TQ 83 SE 9:
(TQ 89453142) Ashenden (NAT) (1) 1715 SMALLHYTHE ROAD (East Side) Ashenden TQ 83 SE 3/79 8.5.50. II* 2. One wing dates from the C17 but the main part of the house is an early C18 L-shaped building. 2 storeys and attic, red brick with grey headers. Hipped tiled roof and modillion cornice. 6 windows and 1 dormer facing north, 5 windows and 3 dormers facing east. Windows have segmental heads and glazing bars intact. Doorcase in east front with Ionic columns, pediment, semi-circular fanlight and 6 panel moulded door. (2) Ashenden, Smallhythe. 'Lately built' in 1798, that is with a new red-brick east front, to put a mask of near-symmetry over the jumble behind. The mask has five bays, two storeys, a hipped roof, and dormers. Big doorcase with attached columns, fluted Ionic, and a bulgy frieze and pediment. (3)
