Full Description

Description from record TR 15 NW 251:
TR 149575. The 'Invicta', old engine c1830. (1) The twelfth engine designed and built by George and Robert Stephenson. The eleventh engine built had been The Rocket. On May 3rd 1830 it drew the first train on the Canterbury and Whitstable Railway. After a short working life it was bricked up in an engine shed and forgotten until after WW1. The engine is set on standard gauge lines on a cement plinth. (2) (TR 14725777) The 'Invicta' engine is now in Canterbury Heritage Museum. Visited by recorder. (3)

The Canterbury UAD states that the Invicta engine engine is now in Poor Priests Museum.

2. Designed and constructed by George Stephenson, this engine was entered as No 12 - the Rocket being No 11. On May 3rd 1830 it drew the first train on the Canterbury and Whitstable Railway. The engine is set on standard gauge lines on a cement plinth.
