Description from record TR 15 NW 266:
No 8 King Street, Monastery Cottage [TR 14905803 - sited from HHR map]. Grade II. Originally a monastic building belonging to Blackfriars Monastery. A timber-framed building refaced 17thc. (1) Timber-framed building 17th century, but may incorporate earlier parts. (2) No 8 King Street may well be earlier than 17th century. To be included on the map. (3)

The Canterbury UAD states that No. 8 King Street (Monastery Cottage) is a listed building. According to the DOE List of Buildings of Historic and Architectural Interest (TR1458 SE 2/298), this was originally a monastic building belonging to Blackfriars Dominican Friary. A timber-framed building, refaced in the 17th century. Over two storeys and stuccoed finished. It has an old tiled roof with a single restored brick chimney stack. Two mullioned casement windows with leaded lights. Rainwater head. Curved brace. Right side doorcase is recessed and has a wooden studded door. The rear elevation has a gable and is timber-framed.
