Full Description
An unidentified mound or cropmark feature. Unknown date and function. Identified from aerial photographs. (1). Site photograph (2-5). The earthwork of a roughly square mound circa 12m across is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1947. This probable post medieval livestock refuge mound was the only one situated within a field on the western side of Cooling parish and is centred at TQ 7554 7719. Refuge mounds provided an area of high ground for livestock to occupy in the event of a flood and numerous refuge mounds were built on the marshes of the Hoo Peninsula. This site was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.(1)
