Summary

An unidentified mound containing small amounts of suspected Roman pottery and brick. Found when a low mound of black earth was removed c.1956 on Wharf Farm, Cliffe. The presence, nearby, of a Roman cremation group (see TQ 77 NW 4), suggests that this was probably the site of a Roman Kiln as associations between kilns and burials is fairly common in this region.
