Full Description

DOVER NORMAN STREET Nos 11 to 19 including front garden area walls and gatepiers. Terrace of 9 houses. Circa mid C19. Stock brick with rendered fronts. Welsh slate roof with gabled ends and parapeted eaves with moulded cornices. Rendered stacks over party walls. Plan: Terrace of 9 houses, the central houses (Nos 13, 14 and 15) are slightly advanced. Double depth plans, one room wide with doorway to left or right of front room. Exterior: 3 storeys, basement and attic. 18-window range with 9 pairs of windows. Moulded cornice to parapet and pilasters to ground floor supporting an entablature with triglyphs and first floor level. The first floor windows above have triangular pediments on console brackets. All original 12-pane sashes except for No 16's windows which are C20 pivot windows. All the houses have original 12-pane basement sashes at the front. C19 panelled and glazed doors with rectangular overlights flanked by pilasters, No 18 has a C20 panel door. All have flat roof dormers but only those of No 12, 14, 15 and 17 have their original 6-pane sashes. In the front of the houses there are low stuccoed brick walls to the garden areas and stuccoed gatepiers with moulded caps in front of the flights of steps to the doorways. The rear, flint and brick elevations are largely unaltered and retain most of their sashes with glazing bars. Nos 16 to 19 have narrow shallow rendered bays with 16-pane sashes. Interiors not inspected but expected to retain original features including joinery such as panelled doors and staircases and chimneypieces and plasterwork etc. (1)
