Full Description
"The Roman potteries at Higham covered the bank for about three miles along the edge of the marsh. I have found a very great variety in the kinds of pottery here, mostly black however. I have seen over a hundred unbroken pots at one time, and such immense quantities of broken fragments that the new embankment of the railway there was in places made with them" (1) "....Higham ware was well made, blue-black in clour, but not so highly finished as that made at Upchurch"... (2) The foreshore of Higham parish has been dug away for mud by the A.P.C.M. The only evidence of Roman occupation now visible is at TQ 70717563 (qv.
