Full Description

The following text is from the original listed building designation:
GII Listed building situated on Castle Hill Road, Dover, consisting of a house which is now in use as a hotel (Ardmore Hotel). Circa early to mid-19th century. Stock brick, painted at front and left hand side and with stuccoed ground floor. Asbestos tile roof with hipped left-hand end. Brick gable end and axial stacks. Plan: Wedge-shaped plan. 2 principal rooms at the front with a central entrance. Narrower at the left hand end which appears to be only 1 room deep but wider at the right hand end which is 2 rooms deep. Exterior: 3 storeys and basement. Symmetrical 3-window front with windows disposed to the right. Stuccoed ground floor with band at first floor level, 2 round-headed 12-pane sash windows with keystones flanking central doorway which has pilasters and an entablature with a depressed triangular pediment, rectangular overlight and C19 6-panel door. Three 12-pane sashes on the first floor and three 9-pane sashes on the second floor with painted gauged brick flat arches. All original sashes complete with glazing bars. The left hand end has C19 French case- ment on first floor casement above and recessed rounded corner to left (rear) with C19 round-headed sash on ground floor and sash above both bowed and with glazing bars. The rear elevation is largely unaltered and 5 of the original C19 sashes with glazing bars survive including a tall round-headed sash to the stacks. Interior not inspected but original internal features are expected including the staircase and other internal joinery; chimneypieces and plasterwork. Listing NGR: TR3229541574 (1)
