Full Description
Mid 19th century. 4 storeys and basement stock brick. Ground floor stuccoed. Stone coping. 2 sashes and 1 blank. 1st floor has moulded window surrounds and central 3-light canted bay. Modern shop front. Nos 16 to 58 form a group. (1)
On the corner with Russell Street in 1838. It was a commercial hotel supplied by Russell's Gravesend Brewery. The haunt for many years of the Dover Bicycle Club. Kelly's directory of 1874 described the premises as the "Victoria" family and commercial hotel, and billiard room; Russell Street. First name on the licensee list is George Hipgrave, but the date is unknown, William Boyce is the second with a date of 1837-53. (2)
