Summary

C17th house Grade II* listed building. Main construction periods 1624 Large house with a fine brick facade to the front elevation, tile hung to the rear with a timber framed core of various dates. The hipped tiled roof has two dormers with carved gables. The earliest part of the house are the remains of a medieval open hall, a range was added to this in the early 16th century to form a courtyard house. Most of this house was pulled down between 1711 and 1730 to make way for the present house. The plaque dated 1624 may have originally come from the gate house.

(TQ 85163830) Biddenden Place (NAT) (1) 5272 BIDDENDEN TENTERDEN ROAD (east side) Biddenden Place TQ 853816/86 4.6.52. II* 2. Remains of original building erected by Edward Hendon in 1624. Two storeys and attics red brick and is of late C17 appearance. Hipped tiled roof having 2 dormers with carved gables. Stringcourse. Five casement windows with diamond-shaped leaded panes not quite symmetrically placed. Doorcase with flat hood over. Above the doorcase is a stone cartouche and the date 1624 with the initials E H.(2) Biddenden Place, red brick, probably early 18th century, with a big hipped roof. The windows are slightly irregular, evidence that an earlier house is encased. From the earlier house come the datestone of 1624 and the bargeboards on the dormers. (3)
