Monument record TQ 83 NW 13 - Undated rectangular mound, Chittenden Wood, Cranbrook/Biddenden parish boundary

Summary

An undated rectangular mound is located near the boundary between the parishes of Cranbrook and Biddenden. It is 29m in length, 5m wide and survives to a height of between 0.7-1.3m There is also the remains of a surrounding ditch. The mound is not thought to be a long barrow, rather of relatively modern date. It has been suggested it may be a work of French Prisoners of War, but no definite purpose has yet been determined. Summary from record TQ 83 NW 44: A small rectangular earthwork exists in a clearing in woodland. Possibly a rabbit warren?
