This feature is recorded in the Building Heritage Assessment of Cgms Consulting relating to development of land at Hen & Duckhurst Farm. The report states:
" Hen & Duckhurst Farm - This Grade II listed building is located on the north side of Marden Road and suffiently set back to ensure that it is not possible to view the heritage asset from the public realm. The heritage asset comprises a seventeenth century timber framed two-storey farmhouse with a later 19th century façade; evident by the rendering applied to its ground floor exterior apart from a gable end which has weatherboarding. Conversely, the first floor features hung banded plain and fishscale tiles and is surmounted by a plain half-hipped tile roof with garret. A later lean-to exists to the rear.

Upon evaluating the historical map appraisal, the Farmhouse was originally associated with the agrarian land that comprises the application site. Nonetheless, with the establishment of an electrical substation in the latter half of the 20th century, and as the application site is now under separate ownership, it is considered that the heritage asset's historic setting has significantly eroded.

In terms of the heritage asset's immediate visual setting, the former agricultural buildings contained within its physical site boundaries, partcularly the oasthouse (likely built in the early 20th century) are considered to contribute to its heritage significance. Accordingly the conical roof and white cowl of the unlisted oasthouse is visible from within the application site. Due to existing tree planting and hedgerows however, views from the heritage asset's boundaries towards the application site are obscured. It is therefore concluded that the extent of the heritage asset's original setting is delimited but its natural landscape boundaries, ensuring that the application site negligibly contributes to its visual setting.

In any case, as the heritage asset retains much of its 17th century structure within 19th century enhancements, the Farmhouse is considered to have both aesthetic and historic interest, which consquently forms its primary heritage significance." (3)
