Monument record TQ 87 NE 10 - Remains of Grain battery, renamed Dummy Battery, Isle of Grain

Summary

Coastal artillery battery built between 1867 and 1869. Rebuilt and rearmed in the early twentieth century, it was later given anti-aircraft guns during the First World War to defend Grain Air Station. It had no weaponry after World War I and was abandoned by the military in 1956.
