Summary
Quex Museum, House and Gardens are located near Margate. The site was the stately home of the Powell-Cotton family. The core of the house was built in 1808 and is now grade II listed. Two wings were added in 1883. The museum opened in the late 19th century to house a number of artefacts collected by the family during excursions to Africa. There are a number of archaeological and ethnographic collections including African and Asian animal displays, tribal artefacts, weapons, cannons and Chinese porcelain. The house was built in the early 19th century and the gardens were completed in the Victorian period.
