TQ6857 HIGH STREET 1156-0/3/9 (East side) 01/08/52 Nos.31-37 (Odd) (Formerly Listed as: HIGH STREET Premises occupied by Westminster Bank and Scott House)

2 shops with accommodation above, originally 2 houses. 2 early C18 houses linked together and refronted in early C19 with some alterations of c1900. Built of diaper work brick in Flemish bond with 2 very steeply pitched tiled roofs. Stuccoed front, grooved to imitate masonry. 2 storeys and attics, 9 windows. Parapet with stone coping and moulded cornice. 3 C20 flat-roofed dormers. Right-hand part has 5 12-pane sashes with reeded architraves and doorcase with flat wooden hood, pilasters and rectangular fanlight with intersecting glazing. Left-hand part has similar windows (but with horns) and doorcase. Side elevation has deep wooden modillion cornice. Attached spear railings. No 37 has C18 staircase with turned balusters.
