The historic building survey of Ightham Mote farm buildings concluded that they comprise an inverted U-plan series of brick buildings in three linked ranges arranged around a central courtyard with an earlier stone building occupying the southwestern corner of the site. With the exception of the 18th century stone structure, the buildings represent a designed farmstead. Originally there had been a fourth range just south of the centre of the farmyard which was demolished in the mid 20th century.
They are significant architecturally as the brick ranges were designed as a group utilising the same materials and architectural details throughout. The nature and position of the buildings is suggestive of the period of High Farming.(2)
