Full Description

Large moated site and remains of field system. Linear feature cuts across both, moat not marked, levelled post 1946 to make playing fields at Crockreed lane, New Romney. (1)

A geophysical survey in 2010 noted the presence of the NE ditch of the moated enclosure, though failed to pick up any traces of activity within the area. A further enclosure lies to the west - see TR 02 NE 118. (2)

An evaluation in 2010 confirmed the presence of the NE ditch. Aerial Photographs show the ditched area to measure 80m x 90m. The ditches were fed by a natural stream to the north of the site (running NE-SW) via a man-made feeder channel (running NW-SE). The moated site had some internal ditches, though no structures were discovered. This site may be that of Craythorne manor, with the earlier enclosure to the west (TR 02 NE 118) being Cockreed manor.
