Full Description
There are the remains of a moat at the foot of the garden of Mumford Cottages, Kingsnorth, formerly a farmstead by the road that leads to Hamstreet, and a few hundred yards from Mumford, a modern house on the Dymchurch road. (1) Mumfords, formerly Mounfort's, is a manor. The house which stands south-eastwards from the church of Kingsnorth, seems formerly to have been very large but the greatest part of it has been pulled down and the present small farm-house built out of it. (2) [TR 00793890] Old Mumford Farm: a small early C18th house incorporating a few stone foundations and lower courses of an earlier house and Tudor interior timbers. It was substantially added to c.1948. Three small ponds lying to the SW, and NE of the house respectively and fairly certainly remains of a moat. (3)
