Full Description

From the report: "In March 2003 an archaological watching brief was maintained during ground level reduction prior to the laying of a new driveway to the south of Mill Street House. This only revealed a shallow 18th century ditch. This ditch was orientated north-south and was roughly parallel with Mill Street. This ditch was also associated with an earthwork within the same area and on the same line and alignment. At the southern end of the site the groundwork excavations did not extend beyond modern ground levels. This southern portion of the site was covered by redeposited silt and clay from a nearby pond which was located to the immediate south of the new driveway entrance. Where the subsoil was revealed in this are of the site, it was shallow and showed little signs of disturbance whereas in the northern are of the site the subsoil was disturbed to a greater depth and appeared more humic, representing possible garden soil. Artefacts recovered dated from the 17th to the 20th centuries."(1)
