Full Description
From the archaeological report: "The evaluation found evidence for natural sand across the site at heights ranging between 155.19m OD in the south of the site, to 153.75m OD in the west and 153.99m OD in the north. In the south of the site natural sand was present immediately below the existing tarmac surfaces and it appeared that horizontal truncation had occurred in this area of the site. The evaluation found no evidence to suggest human occupation or use of the site prior to the late post-medieval period. To the south of the site foundations associated with 19th century additions to the 18th century farm were recorded whilst in the west of the site a yard surface dating to the same period was recorded. Elsewhere on site two possible ponds and a pit dating to the late 19th century were recorded whilst a number of masonry foundations dating to the 20th century, and associated with the continued use of the site as a farm and/or dairy in the last century were recorded. All of the masonry recorded during the evaluation showed a strong correlation with buildings shown on Ordnance Survey maps of the past 100 years. "(1)
