Full Description
Two very shallow, roughly circular, features containing charcoal and slag rich fills in the middle of reddened areas. Two other similar features of teardrop shape contained similar items. One feature was cut by a modern land drain which contained residual pottery sherds dated to the late first to mid second centuries AD. There were also several small, square postholes. Another circular feature with a square posthole and squarish pit with disturbed fills was nearby.
Gully contained iron smelting slag including oak charcoal with a carbon date range of 60 BC to 80 AD.
A rectangular pit contained 10 sherds of Iron Age pottery. Another pit contained a single sherd of Late Iron Age or early Roman pottery.
Several incutting pits which contained a grain of bread wheat and Iron Age or Roman pottery. (1)
