Full Description
In 2006 a evaulation was undertaked by Thames Valley Archaeolgical Services. Pits observed in Trenches 1 and 17, located at Sevenaoks Quarry, south of Kemsing. The pit in Trench 1 was sub rectangular and although contained no find it did have some environmental evidence; seeds of oat, rye and barley were found within it. The presence of rye would suggest that the pit was most likely post-Roman. The pit in Trench 17 was charcoal rich and filled with brick and tiles. It also contained wood, which may have been driven into the feature and a sherd of a base of green glazed medieval pottery. However it is more than likely that the pit is Post-Medieval in date. (2)
A magnetometry survey in 2006 detected and area of linerar anomalies (possibly an enclosure boundary) and small discrete anomalies (possibly pits) to the south-west of the site. There was also a rectilinear group of anomalies c. 6 m x 3.5 m containing internal features.(1)
