Full Description

In 2006 a new water pipe trench was cut adjacent to the car-park at Lullingstone Roman villa. The trench was 0.6 m deep, 0.45 m wide and c. 45 m long. Much of the trench was within an old water pipe trench and the ground was found to be generally disturbed. A few Roman tiles were recovered amid post medieval brick and decomposing modern-era wood. Nearer the public convenience at the far south of the site a dark clayey loam was found that was interpreted as a buried soil of Roman date (1)
