Monument record TR 06 SW 61 - Rubbish pits, one Roman and four post medieval, Faversham

Summary

Five rubbish pits were excavated at the site of the old Faversham Institute in 1986, before redevlopment of the site. The pit containing Roman pottery was sealed by a medieval deposit. The 18th to 19th century pits contained domestic debris, although no associated structures were found.

Full Description

TR01736128 Five Pits four dating from the mid 18th-mid 19th centuries and the 1st to the mid 2ndc AD. were revealed by excavations at the site of the old Faversham Institute (in c1986) prior to redevelopment. All appear to be rubbish pits, probably relating to nearby occupation, although no associated structures were encountered. The Ro pit contained pottery dating from c10AD-210AD and was sealed by a medieval deposit. (1)
