Area J was a portion of the Grain-Shorne pipeline on slopes of a broad ridge north-west of Cliffe Woods village excavated in 2008. It is thought that the subsoil evident across the site indicates little damage by ploughing.

Worked flint was recovered from a number of later features but there was also a possible pit dating to the Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age. The pit was 1.15m in diameter, 0.4m deep and contained a bladelet. Another pit was dated to the Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age. It was 2.6m in diameter, 0.34m deep and contained three worked flint flakes. Both features could be of later date and the material simply residual finds within them. (1-2)
