Full Description

An archaeological evaluation of the proposed site for some new public conveniences in Northgate car park was restricted to 1m below current ground level. A number of pits, walls, floors and a stone-lined cess pit were found. These are probably mostly 19th or 20th century in date. Some of the pits may be earlier and there could be evidence of medieval activity on the site. Residual Roman pottery was also recovered. (1)
