Full Description
31 trenches were excavated across the Rochester Riverside development site in late 2004 and early 2005. In trenches in the north eastern part of the site a wall was found dating to the medieval period, likely to have been the riverside wall of Rochester city. This wall was found at a depth of 3.1mOD parallel to and approximately 3.5m to the north of the Roman town wall. Pits and garden soil dating to the medieval period were also found in this area, as were a possible hearth and a cess pit (1-2).
