Full Description
Feature located in trench 27 of Brisley Farm, Ashford, evaluation of phases 6 and 7. Found within feature [7031] in the phase 7 area were two clay pipes (including a complete bowl) and a pewter spoon bowl, believed to be 16th to 17th century in date. The feature was unexcavated and is believed to be a possible pit or deposit of material (spread), identified after hand cleaning, whereby it is believed to consist of three possible fills: a dirty orange brown silty clay, and orange grey silty clay and a blue grey silty clay with very frequent sandstone fragments. It is not clear from the report from which of these fills the aretefacts were recovered. Also found on the site were two bone fragments, both in a poor state of preservation and believed to be post-Roman in date. (1)
