Full Description
Features included 11 burials or cremation-related features (c.25 BC to AD 50), some of which contained cremated human bone, one of which was urned. Ditches and a pit were also recorded.
From original ASE monument:
To the se are five intercutting shallow pits were exposed containing early roman pottery and an iron fragment (nail-like) similar to those found in the cremations.
During an excavation at Brisley Farm, nr Ashford part of what seems to be a Romano-British cremation "field". Eight cremation burials, one with an urn were found in association with eleven dispersed pyre-related burning-pits on a low ridge running NE-SW. The pits were shallow and very regular in shape, circular or slightly oval, with burnt clay bases, ash and charcoal. Seven of the cremations contained iron nail like fragments along with small amounts of bone and ash. There is little evidence to suggest that the cremations continue to the south but many well do so to the north. C14 samples have been taken from the burnt-pits along with artefacts from the cremations for analysis. No information about this is available at present.

The cremations are located to the south of a LIA/ERB occupation site (TQ 94 SE 37) and medieval activity sites to the north and immediate east (TQ 94 SE 38 & TQ 94 SE 42). (2)
