Full Description

A prehistoric pit, 1.04m by 0.94m and 0.28m deep, with 44 burnt flints within the carbon-rich deposits, was found during a watching brief at White Cliffs Business Park. No datable finds were recovered from the pit but a carbon sample was taken for dating. This was the second such pit found on the site and may represent nearby cooking activity during the Neolithic or Bronze Age, given the volume of struck flint from this period found in the area.

A total of 182 struck flints were recovered, dating to the Neolithic-Bronze Age. These were mostly flakes, with some retouching evident, but there were also two scrappers and one piercer. (1)
