Full Description

A pit and a post hole were found during an evaluation on the former site of Eastry Hospital in 1993. The pit was roughly semi-circular and measured c.3m by 1m and was c.0.5m deep. It contained some pieces of struck flint and fire cracked flint along with fragments of bone, shell and pottery sherds. The post hole was 0.38m in diameter and 0.63m deep. It appeared to cut a large tree throw that produced a Bronze Age flint core and Anglo-Saxon pottery. All of the pottery recovered dated to the 7th-9th centuries AD. (1)
