Full Description
Two post holes of possible prehistoric date were found during an evaluation on Lydia Road. The post holes were c. 0.4m across and represent substantial features. No pottery was found in their fills but a single struck flake and two calcined flints were recovered.
A larger feature was also found and was thought to be a tree throw. A sherd of medieval pottery was found within it, probably a Tyler Hill product, of 13th or 14th century date.
A sherd of grog-tempered ware was found in the topsoil and may be late Iron Age or early Roman in date. A further two struck flakes were also found in the topsoil. (1)
The tree throw was found to be larger than revealed in the evaluation during a watching brief. A post medieval boundary ditch was also found running across the site. (2)
