Full Description

Excavations undertaken around the White Horse Stone site in the Medway Valley between Oct 1998-Mar 1999 by Oxford Archaeology. The site consisted of three areas along the CTRL line; from west to east: the ‘White Horse Stone site’, the ‘Pilgrim’s Way site’, and the ‘West of Boarley Farm site’.

The middle Bronze Age sees a renewal in activity, with four clusters of post holes on the Pilgrim’s Way site and the southern end of the White Horse Stone site, with rectangular and circular structures proposed. Charred barley were found in two of the posthole clusters, and a sheep burial was found in a pit near one of the clusters. A V-shpaed ditch at the northern end of the White Horse Stone site; up to 2.62m wide and 1.06m deep and containing deposits of animal bone and charred grain. (1)
