Full Description
Excavation at Snodland undertaken by Archaeology South-East in 2008 prior to development works found evidence of Roman buildings relating to the villa to the east and limited activity from other eras.
Apparent droveway or trackway, delineated by two parallel ditches aligned NW-SE. A further ditch aligned perpendicular to this suggests field boundaries were laid out parallel to the droveway. A series of pits and gullies containing cereal grains, pottery. From later deposits (i.e residual) were found: worked flint, a La Tene I brooch, two fragments of La Tene III brooch, and a copper-alloy Late Bronze Age sword pommel and handle (though the presence of this in the demolition deposit of the bath-house TQ 76 SW 454 means it could have been an heirloom and not representative of such activity on the site).
