Full Description
Evaluation at Bilham Farm in 2003 by Archaeology South-East prior to proposed development.
Pits, post-holes, and gullies, some of which are datable to the Late Iron Age / Roman period, suggest the presence of a small settlement in the E and NE of the site (next to the Roman road) and associated field system on the lower ground to the W and SW. Additionally, several features date to the prehistoric period, and one gully may be Saxo-Norman. Modern ploughing has probably removed evidence on the higher ground where the settlement is sited. (1)
