Full Description
(TR 15035769) Six Roman pits ranging in date from the late 2nd to late 4th centuries were discovered by the Canterbury Excavation Committee in 1947 while excavating two small trenches in cellars. On either side of a narrow alley on the south side of St George's Street three late Saxon pits were also found along with a fourth, possibly dating to the second half of the 8th century. One medieval pit was excavated which produced pottery between 1050 and 1150. (1)
