Full Description
(TR 15025773) A Roman building, pits and Saxon pits were discovered when two trenches were dug in a cellar between National Provincial and Barclays Bank by the Canterbury Excavation Committee in 1948. In one there were three pits. In the other a two phase timber building overlay evidence for 1st century activity on the site. A deep Saxon pit contained three sherds of the late 6th or 7th century and another of the 8th or 9th century. (1)
