Full Description
(TR 15045772). Part of a Roman floor and a pit dated cAD80-140 were found during excavations conducted by the Canterbury Excavation Committee in 1947 and 1949. A pit containing Saxon pottery and a medieval rim sherd were found and three medieval cellar walls and several floors were located. The area had been badly disturbed. During an extension to the rear of No 13 St George's Street, the foundation in chalk, flint and mortar of a large medieval building was observed. An almost complete 'water sprinkler' was also found. At the front of the structure a circular baker's oven of pitched-tile construction was observed. (1-2)
