Monument record TR 15 NE 270 - Frater St Augustine's Abbey

Summary

Frater or refectory to the north of the cloister at St Augustine's Abbey known to have rebuilt and enlarged in the 1260s. Excavations have indicated the presence of an earlier refectory on the site possibly part of the Saxon Monastery. The wall facing the cloister appears to have had some form of ornamental arcading. The refectory may have been on a raised level as an early photograph shows a crypt under it.
