Full Description
(TR 14825760 - plotted from plan (2) and OS 1:2500 1957) Belgic, Roman, Saxon and medieval pits were discovered in April 1950 when two trenches were excavated in the cellers of Nos 29-30 Watling Street. In trench 1 a very large Roman pit, probably a quarry to obtain brickearth was found. Two other pits were noted, one of Saxon date containing 9th century pottery and one of medieval date c1050-1100. In trench two, one Belgic pit and one Roman pit were discovered. (1-2)
