Full Description

Watching brief undertaken by Oxford Archaeology Unit during 1999/2000 north of Westernhanger Castle, as part of the CTRL works. Prehistoric to post-medieval activity was found.

An 11th-13th century (?) settlement was found in the NW of the site consists of three buildings with associated pits and enclosures. The eastern end of the settlement has likely been truncated by later medieval ditches, and the settlement likely extends north beyond the limit of the area investigated. (1)
