Full Description
Watching brief undertaken by Oxford Archaeology Unit during 1999/2000 north of Westernhanger Castle, as part of the CTRL works. Prehistoric to post-medieval activity was found.
The 14th-15th centuries (?) sees a shift in settlement. Several parallel ditches running NE-SW extending beyond the north and south boundaries of the excavation. To the north are a number of small rectilinear enclosures, the function of which are unknown but are possible animal pens. It is suggested that any accompanying settlement lies to the north of the area investigated. (1)
