Full Description
TR 288565. Belgic Ditches, Blackpond, Hamill. Belgic pottery including much comb ware found in October 1981. Sites border a large clay quarry excavated by Hammill Brickworks (1a). Rescue excavation by K.A.R. 13/4/84 prior to brickearth extraction (1b). Belgic ditch set on NW-SE axis traced for 8m to S.E. where it turned 90 degrees to N.E. Eastern arm traced for min of 4.5m. Finds include Belgic pedestal urn fragment, and other Belgic sherds. Scatter of prehistoric potsherds found on surface of field. Ditch was 1.50m. wide by 58cm. deep and traced for min. length of 13m.
