Full Description

A number of rectangular enclosures have been identified in aerial photographs from fields to the south of Monkton Road Farm. The cropmarks appear in close association with one another and in places appear to be party joined. Another curvilinear feature is located at the site but not thought to be the remains of an enclosure. The fields are now under pasture with little of these features visible.

[Area TR 294666] Crop marks of a series of contiguous, rectangular ?enclosures.(1)

Situated upon the gentle north facing slope of a downland ridge. The ground is under cabbages and nothing was seen.(2)

TR 29316658. Linear arrangement of small, partially conjoined enclosures. The curvilinear feature is `U' shaped, but it is unlikely to be an enclosure.(3-4)

Enclosures forming part of a settlement of Medieval date were visible as cropmarks in Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 14-APR-2015. There are a number of pits amongst the enclosures. The enclosures are positioned to the north side of a track linking Seamark Road to Plumstone Road that appears on the first edition Ordnance Survey 1:2,500 scale County Series map and which survives as a public footpath. These features were mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024. (5-6)
