Three sides of an elongated rectilinear enclosure.

The remains of a three sided rectilinear enclosure is located in fields near Monkton. This feature appears in isolation although a further number of cropmarks are known in fields some 700m to the east, and also a similar distnace to the north. The enclosure was identified by aerial photographs taken in 1985. Partially visible on the 2007 Google Earth image. (1)

Interpreted as a long barrow by the RCHME. (2)

An enclosure of Later Prehistoric date was visible as a cropmark in Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 21-APR-2007 and BING.COM/MAPS XX-XXX-2024. The sub-square enclosure measures about 48m by 43m on plan. The ditch to its south side extends to the west, from which further ditches run perpendicularly to the south forming possibly another enclosure or fragments of trackways. These features were mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024. (3-4)
