Full Description
TR 262653. Cropmark of enclosure.
The large rectangular enclosure appears to be surrounded by a ditch and is approximately two acres in area. On the basis of this evidence the enclosure is suggested to be the remains of a small Roman military camp.
A cropmark in cereals demonstates the presence of a large rectangular ditched enclosure possibly two acres in extant. Small Roman Military Camp. (1)
An enclosure forming part of a settlement of probable Iron Age date was visible as a cropmark on CUCAP BTM88 26-JUN-1973. The enclosure is sub-rectangular on plan, measuring about 120m by 90m. An off-centre gap in its western side may indicate an original entrance. The southern end of the enclosure has an internal subdivision. Two lengths of ditch running parallel to the enclosure's northern side may represent the route of an adjacent trackway or field boundary. This feature was mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024. (2)
