Full Description
TR 372479. An Iron Age (sic) ditch at Kingsdown Wood, Wood Hill, Kingsdown. In 1971, Mr Andrew Appleby, on behalf of the Kingsdown Branch of the Deal Historical Society uncovered a 'V' shaped ditch on the east side of Wood Hill, Kingsdown (see illustration card no.1). This was 1.60m wide and 0.85m deep with a slot in the base. Finds included perhistoric pottery and flints. One piece of pottery (see illustration card no. 2) from the site was dated c.1000-700 BC. This information is largely derived from Mr Appleby's unpublished notes which are in the possession of the Dover Archaeological Group. The finds are in Dover Museum (see also TR 34 NE 20). (1)
