Full Description

The possible site of Biggin Gate is located along Cannon Street, near St. Mary's Church, Dover, there has however been no archaeological features recorded to confirm this location (1) The site of a gate is located here on a map produced by Thomas Digges dating to 1581 (2) and another almost contemporary produced by Thomas Miles dating to 1580 (3) alongside this an unlabelled gate is marked on William Eldred's map of Dover Town and Harbour which dates to 1641, suggesting that this gate/tower survived until at least this date. (4)
